I know what you mean about fearing that people are putting on an act, especially on blogs. My experience has been that once I meet the person behind the blog, they are almost exactly the way I perceived them. It could be that we tend to follow the people most like us and if we are genuine then they probably are as well. Now the high school reunion thing could be a whole other story, I'm just sayin'. Just be you and have fun, if one feels the need to portray themselves as something they aren't it is their problem, not yours.
