Summertime's callin' me...
Most photos require no explanation....
they evoke memories...
good and some, well, maybe sad...
For me this is a special time of the year....
I have always loved summertime...
of course, as a child, the "livin' was easy",
as a teenager, I lifeguarded for several summers,
and as an adult, I loved to spend pool time with my son....
I was raised in a southern city with no A/C in the house,
none until I was in high school...
we stayed in the shade, drank iced tea, volunteered to
defrost the freezer, swam in the creek,
squirted each other (and Mom!) with the hose,
and laid on the cool concrete floor of the basement to play
board games...
you had to be creative to live without A/C...
These days, I occasionally have to throw open the windows
on a cool summer morning, like today,
crank up the attic fan (some call it a whole house fan)
and feel the
fresh breezes against my skin.
My friend, Anne, (in the B/W photo)
loved summertime as much as I do...
she died of cancer several years ago.
She was born on August 9th,
and I was born on August 8th of the same year...
we attended the same junior high school, high school
and grew into middle age together.
She was one of the "chick's" that I joined twice a year,
on girl's weekends......for decades.....
We miss her terribly....
and when the sun shines especially HOT,
I think of her, as Anne was indeed quite hot....
I hope that all of you enjoy your summertime...
and take the time to smell that fresh morning breeze...

What's your philosophy?
I guess that it speaks to my intelligence
that I embrace the philosophy of a dog.....
a very specific dog....
a famous one, no less....
that would be..
Snoopy!
He has never failed me....
Even though his owner Charlie Brown
has his tails of woe (sorry for the pun)
not Snoopy.....
brilliant in all his reactions to life,
this dog is priceless..
He has friends, too.
Like Linus...
I'm with you Linus, ol' pal....
Then there is
Charlie,
who needs the calm reassurance of his
canine companion...
Snoopy
fits into any crowd,
regardless of race, religion or breed...
(sorry again)
Snoopy knows his place in the
grand scheme of things...
On top of his house..
Snoopy is
loyal,
kind,
compassionate,
faithful,
calm in the face of danger,
perhaps,
he is a
Boy Scout!
He is also creative...
Ah,
and a leader amongst
a herd of followers...
A counselor to the troubled....
He is my hero...
Thank you Mr. Schulz,
wherever you are....

Idle hands are the devil's workshop.....
Or....
maybe they are just an opportunity to
irritate the heck out of everyone in earshot....
Have you noticed,
that men don't have enough to do.....
or it would seem...
How many times have you been in your home,
minding your own business....
and suddenly you hear a
BEEP BEEP BEEP
BEEP BEEP
BEEP
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Really?
Seriously?
Does it actually help to hit that button 20-hundred times?
I am sure not.
I simply hit the button once,
and my sweet Fit,
silently
unobtrusively,
politely,
locks itself.
Period.
What is the purpose of multi-beeping?
Does it draw attention to the lonely?
Does it give you a more intense feeling of security?
Does is prove that Dad gave you the keys?
You've passed the driver's test?
You are bored?
Stupid?
That's how I see life
in the side-view mirror.....

I see details...
It's a strange thing....
once you have viewed the world through
a camera's viewfinder,
and have become
"addicted to the click",
you see things differently.
much differently.....
It seems that
once you realize the infinite
possibilities of
capture....
well...
it
changes
you.
I spent the morning
shooting
stuff
for my Etsy
shop.
I had been concentrating on
light,
shadows,
set-ups,
etc...
and then,
hot,
exhausted,
head hurting,
and
a little pissy...
I plopped myself
down on the nearest
sofa, leaned back
and
then
looked at the
things piled on the coffee
table.
"wonder how that would look?"
"wonder what the light is doing this far from the window?"
Set's see...
I can do this...
and this...
and
well,
maybe
this too..
Minutes pass,
many
minutes.......
You would think I had nothing else to do,
nope..
I have laundry,
dishes,
cleaning,
you know the routine,
but still
the camera,
she calls....
smiles.

Tagged.....
Sweet Annie Coe, the Blissful Bohemian, thank you for the questions,
got my little mind off troubles and onto something interesting.
Thank you!
1: What is your current obsession?
New Canon lenses…
2: Which item of clothing do you wear most?
Jeans….for decades….but also white turtlenecks, Birkenstocks, sundresses, etc..
3: What's for dinner?
Well, Friday nights are “five guys night” (http://www.fiveguys.com/home.aspx) , so me and hubby will be scarfing down some fries and chee-buggers…
4: Last thing you bought?
Birdseed.
5: What are you listening to?
My husband …..snoring in the other room.
6: If you were a god or goddess, who would you be?
Well…..Venus, not for my looks, but maybe my guilty pleasures…
7: Favorite guilty pleasure?
Lazy mornings in bed
8: Reading right now?
Blogs…House Beautiful….Daily meditation book….dictionary…..no interesting books, for the moment. My father collects books, and my mother is a retired librarian, 'nough said?
9: Okay...what were you thinking about just then?
“Did I turn off the dishwasher?”
10: Who's your hero/heroine?
The women in my life, my old friends from grade school, my current friends, who have seen me through divorce and a new wonderful marriage and my mother, who is sweet as spring.
12: Funniest thing you saw in your life?
Gosh, I hate to admit this one….the Woody Allen movie “Sleeper”, which came out when I was in high school and would go to movies in an “altered state”. (Really sad, I know)Woody and Diane Keaton for one of their first times together in a movie. REALLY SILLY.
13: Favourite film?
Gone with the Wind…I know, but I am pretty sure I was Scarlet in a previous life.
14: Share some wisdom?
Trust me on this one, “there are no mistakes”.
15: If you were a tree, what tree would you be and why?
I would be a Sequoia. If you ever have the chance to go to Muir Forest outside of San Fran, do it. You will not regret.
16: Fictitious characters who made a lasting impression on you?
Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, Scout (To Kill a Mockingbird), Charlie Brown, all of whom, learn something in their walk.
17: 4 words to describe you?
Seeking, Open, Multi-faceted, and happy.
I would love to tag all of you, but I think that this time I will leave it up to you. Just make sure to let me know
If you decide to complete the questions, I want to know it all!

The garden party has begun...
The Bradford Pears are in full bloom, even some green leaves,
the hydrangea has little Green sprouts all over,
daffodils are bent and crumpled....
Periwinkle is "purpleing out"
POLLEN is Everywhere.
POLLEN is Everywhere.
My hands get itchy this time of year.
It' as though they can't wait
to feel the dirt beneath their nails.
And my feet long for the warmth of the spring sidewalk.
Gardening tools need cleaning,
hoses need replacing,
compost needs spreading,
and I can't wait.
The garden center is my heaven.
Statuary, tools, bags of loam,
gadgets, hanging ferns, and
Plants I've never owned.
New life.....
New attitude....
New beginnings....
Heaven.

Best meal, ever...
This meal made my weekend.
I know it is modest by all measurements,
but it brought me back to reality.
Back to my life, not infringing on someone else's.
I spent a good part of last week thinking about the life of
another. I couldn't seem to shake the image, or the feelings.
It felt so fragile, lost even, to know a friend had passed on
without the benefit of someone to keep him company.
But,
this meal, made by the loving hands of my sweet husband,
snapped me out of it.
It was prepared on a sunny, warm afternoon.....
windows open, sweat on our foreheads,
pollen threatening to clog every orifice (sorry) and yet
here is was a simple meal that brought me back to the here and now.
Right here, right now.
Right where my feet are planted.
Ah....
that is so much better.
Blessed relief.

How hard it is to accept the unacceptable....
How many times has life given someone else,
who we see as undeserving, the better deal?
How many times have we said "NO FAIR!",
and pointed out the other person's faults?
The only thing that growing older really gives you is a little perspective.
If you are open to it,
and very lucky.
The last 24 hours have seemed particularly unfair.
Details are unimportant.
But today I am grateful that I am older and tiny bit wiser,
and know in my heart that everything will be OK.
Life goes on whether we choose to participate or not.....
If we choose to "be in the game",
we have to accept that we will not always win.
And sometimes life does seem to be unfair....

What a wonderful world...

This is my friend Bill.
Bill has been gone now for slightly over a year.
On Saturday we had a celebration of his life.
His wife, Ruthanne, has been one of my favorite people in the world.
She misses him so much, that it is very hard to find the words.
However, she smiles like a sunflower.
She laughs as though he were still with us, laughing too.
(I think he is...)
As I created a video of photos that Ruthanne lent me, I know that Bill was right there with me. He nudged me in certain directions and moved me away from other ones. The result was pretty incredible.
We cried a little, and laughed a lot!
I hope that I have learned something from this experience.
I hope that I have learned that to celebrated someone's life is so much better than to mourn. I have learned that laughing heals. I have learned that a simple smile can change someone's life. So, if I have nothing better to bring to the table, I should at least smile.
Grace is an interesting thing.
Almost never anticipated, and yet, always appreciated.

This is my life...
My life is so incredibly good.
It hasn't always been.
Even when trying to maintain a positive outlook, there have been times that my life appalled me. Times when I really didn't know if I could stand to wake up one more morning.
I have been blessed with a peaceful interlude.
Sure there are details of my life that could use some "restructuring", but in general, I am so grateful to wake up and realize where I am. And I only occasionally dream of the bad times, now...
Just for today...
