a review of the holidays....

I discovered that a dear friend is actually
"Mrs. Claus"
Hence, Christmas-towne in her living room....

Then, to IKEA
my sweetie & I went..

Then home to decorate...

Another dear friend supplied us with a
Charlie Brown tree...

one of my favorite ornaments....

the only time of the year in which my office is slightly presentable...

Another day, preparations for dinner for 10....

then a visit from
the daughter, who was single, blonde and pet-less last year...

who brought her new husband, dog
and....

RED hair this year!

An ornament to remind us of the V&A in London..

Lovely cards from all over...

These photos were all taken on the run...
mostly with my new iPhone....
I am still in the learning stage with it.
Hope your holidays have been
interesting, calm and joyous...

05 November 2009

It starts so innocently......and then....

usually about 4 pm I start to think....
no, that's not exactly right...
my stomach starts to growl.
So, I ignore it until the pain and/or rumbling
starts to interfere with the task at hand.
Then....
I go start a pot of coffee.
Those of you over 50 understand this...
as it is only coffee that allows me to remain awake through
dinnertime and into the evening.
After my first cup o' joe,
I think to myself....
Hmmmm
what's for dinner?
So I set the table,
salt....pepper....lemons.....
iced tea....(yes, even in the late fall)
and then I turn to the ice chest...
and scrounge for the main event.
tonight....
roast chicken,
Hmmmmm
and
rice simmered in homemade chicken stock....
and
Italian pole beans, with just a touch of seasoning.....
Now it is time for another cup o' joe....
and
Hmmmm the rosemary, balsamic vinegar,
garlic, onion, and lemon zest are starting to
make the whole house smell
well,
homey....
Yummmmmm

Dinner with family....

This weekend we are celebrating my mother's 75th birthday. She is so cute, and it is very hard for me to believe that she is anywhere near her seventies. Of course this photo is a little dated. My son, father and David will all be here for dinner. What a wonderful tradition, to celebrate the day that a loved one was born. I know that everyone feels that their mother is the BEST, but my mother really is.....She stayed at home, cooked, cleaned, made us snacks after school, made Kool-Aid on hot summer days, allowed us to use her quilts and bedspreads to make "forts" in the backyard, led Girl Scout troops, camped, sewed, cut the grass, taught us how to ride a bike, made sure that I woke up to see the moon landing on TV, got me up in the middle of the night to see a meteor shower, tolerated my fashion sense, and allowed me to drive her car. She is my idol. She is the mother that I wish I could have been. She is now my best friend. We don't talk everyday, we are both pretty busy. But we know how to get in touch if we need to....
My mom's family call her "Bink". She never looked like a "Bink" to me. But they all love her and I assume this is a term of endearment. My dad is one lucky guy, and fortunately he knows it.

Dinner with Matt.....

I am so full, I could just pop.
What a wonderful meal. David is the bestest cook! He made a roast pork this evening that would command $$$$ in a restaurant. Matt came over to dine with us. Not much talking here, but lots of approving "hmmmms". We are now fat and happy, having devoured the pork, and dessert of brownies and ice cream.
Yes, life does go on....
Of course it does. And tomorrow, as I sit in the church and listen to men speak, who think they knew my friend, I will smile and rejoice because I am blessed.
I am blessed to have wonderful friends, to have a husband that is a magnificent cook, and to have a faith that tells me I will see Anne again in the future.
Perhaps we will know each other longer there than we did here, or perhaps we already have........
I am so full.
