Movin' on....

Now that we have completed the repairs,
we are ready to move on.....

We have loved this house.

We have renovated, painted,
remodeled, ripped out the old in order
to install the new....

It is beautiful.

We love it.

But it is time to
do something
different....

The following photos are not mine,
but they are all wonderfully created.
If you need an excellent interiors shooter,
I know just the man you want to hire.
(email me for his contact info)

This is the Video Tour Link

Yes,
it will be hard to leave that BAKW!
I have sat there and observed the world for hours at a time.
I watched the film crew working on the Pilot for
from that window.
(Carrie's apt interiors were shot in a neighbor's condo)

It feels very strange to think of leaving here.
Have you ever left a place with ambivalence?

How did you deal with those feelings?

I'm sure it's time,
but there are doubts.

NIght time is the Right time....

I promise to
end this relentless
reporting from my BAKW....soon.

I confess
I have seen no one who looks like they
are an actress, or an actor....

Everyone I have laid eyes on
has looked to be a hard-working joe,
very much like you or me......
(or course, all I do is sit by the window)

They arrived early in the morning...

They spent a lot of time setting up,
consulting with each other,
and re-arranging what the previous crew had left behind...

They wore interesting hats....

Honestly, it was pretty cold in the mornings...
so, coffee and hot drinks were common.

They brought in a crane yesterday....
that confused me a bit...
but it became clearer as the day went on..

I am glad that I didn't have to climb to the top of that ladder,
I saw the person who did, he didn't give it a thought.

All day the vans were prepared to transport...

Did I mention the hats?
This guy must be very important.
His hat was the largest, by far,
and most interesting.
It appears to be a knitted toboggan
stretched over a flouresent orange hard hat....

All day long they worked...
I could not tell if they were actually filming,
as all the "real action" was taking place
inside.

But
things got rather more dramatic
as the natural light faded....

I had been cooking dinner,
when I noticed that it was dark.
As I gazed out,
I saw brilliant light outside...

It is difficult to put into words,
and even harder to photograph,
(as my equipment is not for night shooting)
but the world looked dark,
with the exception of this one
very bright spot,
suspended at least 30 feet in the air.
(that's what the crane is for..)

This went on for hours...

They had a scrim positioned in front of the
condo's balcony to diffuse the intensity of the spot lights...

And occasionally,
they moved the light.....
on it went...
into the evening and late into the night...

I was tired,
and went to bed around 10:30, knowing they were out
there still working....lights on, but no noise....
Gosh, I thought, they sure are quiet....
ZZZZZZZ......

Then, this morning,
I woke, came down for the coffee,
and my sweetie says
"They are almost entirely packed up and gone"
What?!
How could that be?
I wake at the drop of a hat, and I was sure
that I would wake if they started
"breaking down" the set.

Off to the BAKW!
and....sure enough,
this is what I saw.....

So....

This is what I know....
they are filming a pilot for
a Television series...

It is called
starring
Claire Danes.
They have been filming all over town,
and several locations were mentioned in publications
earlier in the month.
There was absolutely no mention of the filming in my 'hood.
That's cool....in fact, one of the crew told a neighbor that it
had been pretty nice filming here, because no one had bothered them

Ooops.....
I believe they jinxed themselves...
that very night,
it is reported that late in the evening,
one  of the neighbors got a bit
tipsy (that's what we will call it anyway)
and wandered over,
up the front steps,
into the room where they were filming
and started yelling at them...
(how embarrassing)
here, we were earning a reputation for being sort of
cool, hip, calm, easy to work around....
and some yah-whoo goes and
messes that up....

Anyway,
they asked this person to leave,
she wouldn't,
the policeman on site,
told her to leave,
and she did...
jeez....

That's all Folks!

The View from My BAKW....

My BAKW
has been quite a spot for entertainment for the
last couple of days...

Here's what I have
seen....

Yes...it is dark....
I am too much of a chicken to
capture images in the light of day....

It is a closed set....
(at least I think that is what they might call it)

They are filming a new
made for TV series/pilot starring
wait for it.....

Claire Danes

Cool, huh?

Right across the parking lot from my
BAKW
(Big Ass Kitchen Window, for those who haven't heard)

No, I haven't seen her...
NO, I haven't see anyone who looks important....
NO!
I am trying to be cool and not notice...
but when the sun starts to dip below the tree tops...
I can take my Canon
over to the BAKW....
and steal a peek or two..

Wonder if she would like a
cup o' joe?

27 December 2010

The BAKW.....winter version....

Yes,
I spent a good portion of the day in front of my
Big Ass Kitchen Window
taking in the sites....

Yesterday's bird photos were all taken there....

And yesterday evening,
as my sweetie made us dinner,
I started the afternoon coffee and sat down to watch
a bit more of the bird soap opera...

People were venturing out,
walking dogs,
playing in the snow,
clearing their front porches,
getting their mail from last week....

I love my BAKW!
It is my window on the world.
The bird feeder is only a few feet outside and
the birds hardly notice me, inside.

Hope your day is calm
and bright...
smiles.

The BAKW.....

Well,
here she is....
the
Big A@* Kitchen Window.

She's a she,
because of her prominent curves....
and
they are BIG,
like mine.

She is the defining feature of the
kitchen in our condo.

We have lived here for almost
5 years now....

When we saw her for the first time.
I nearly cried.
She (the condo)
had been badly neglected.
Her carpet was torn and stained.
Her tile was cracked and loose.
Her cabinets were, original
(she was built in 1972)
She looked decrepit.

We have replaced carpet
in bedrooms,
put hardwood on the main level
painted every surface.
 Really.
When we gutted the kitchen,
we made it clear to the contractor,
that we had priced a new window,
and that he would probably want to be
very careful around it, as the custom window
would run around $9000,
no kidding....

So,
the kitchen is wonderful now.
And as mentioned previously,
I am blessed with women in my life,
that come by for conversation,
and tea, or coffee, or sweet tea....

And
we
sit at the kitchen table
in front of the
BAKW.

Sometimes,
conversations that are difficult,
are easier when
there is something to look at
outside of ourselves.
Something that allows us
to say the unspeakable....
I have noticed this affect
on people that sit in front of
the BAKW.

They "Blurt out all over the place".....
as one of them explained to me....
She was amazed that
things that seemed to be locked in
her head forever....
jumped out....when she sat there
with cup in hand.

Maybe it's magic....

It is coated with some sort of
UV protective film, not
really reflective but which
that tends to make looking in
difficult, unless it is night ,
and the lights are shining bright
inside.

There is a bird feeder
and a hummingbird feeder
right there within 3 feet of the window.
The birds rarely notice those inside.
Only if we move, or are too loud...

This is also my favorite
place to photograph
products,
food,
jewelry,
vintage finds,
treasures found,
and
treasures kept....
and
Tomatoes!

Again,
I know how lucky I am
to have this BAKW...
she makes me smile.
